Christmas is probably the one time in the year where most people gain an insane amount of weight. And why not? There are constant Christmas Parties, gifts in the form of cookies, cakes and chocolates, family dinners and of course, there’s the Christmas Meal. It’s impossible to say “no” to all the delectable goodies being offered.
However, there are some ways you can keep the weight off during the Holiday Season.
Eat before you party
One way to reduce your food intake at Christmas Parties is to make sure you’ve had a bite to eat before you even arrive at the venue. Have an apple, or a sandwich an hour or so before you lead for the party, that way you won’t have to consider the food served at Christmas Parties (which are not always of the healthiest kinds) as your ‘meal’ for that evening.
Find time to exercise
Park at the far end of the mall parking lot and walk towards your destination, continue to go to the gym, do some stretching at home – just because you’re on your Christmas break doesn’t mean you should go on a fitness break too!
Choose your parties and what you eat
You will most likely get a lot of invitations to attend Christmas parties. You don’t have to attend all of them. Choose which ones you really need to go to, and send your regrets to the rest. And when you do go to parties, choose what food items you eat. If you aren’t spoiled for choice, then just have small portions.
Drink in moderation
Christmas is not an excuse to drink excessively (come to think of it, there is no excuse for excessive drinking). Not saying that you shouldn’t partake in a little alcohol – you can but remember your limits. Minimize your alcohol intake, as well as flavored drinks, juices and colas. Drink lots of water.
Get back on track as soon as possible
Okay – so you splurged a bit during Christmas, forgive yourself for that and start planning to get back on track as soon as you can. Don’t wait until mid January to start watching what you eat and exercising – if you keep putting it off, you’ll end up keeping your holiday weight until the following Christmas season.
If you keep to these tips, you should notice that were still able to enjoy food during the Christmas Season without gaining any weight – and if you did, it would be very minimal.
